Commerce in the Community

Commerce Casino was proud to donate $50,000 to the 2011 City of Commerce Scholarship Program. John Griffo, Director of Casino Development, is pictured here with recent scholarship recipients.

Commerce Casino is committed to enhancing the lives of those who live in and around the City of Commerce and its neighboring cities through the Casino’s community giving programs. Commerce Casino is the largest philanthropic organization and the largest employer in the area.

Commerce Casino employs 2,600 people in the region and generates more than $15 million to the local tax base. A large part of that commitment has been to give back to the community by investing in its youth, supporting regional programs that benefit low-income families and fostering educational opportunities for young people in Commerce and the surrounding communities. Commerce Casino strives to be a good neighbor and to help improve the quality of life for those people who live in the Casino’s area of influence—cities that include Commerce, Montebello, Bell Gardens and Downey, among others.

The programs that the Casino supports include everything from a college scholarship program for the region’s young scholars to a children’s bicycle safety fair staged by the City of Commerce each summer. On an ongoing basis, it provides funding to two highly regarded regional youth organizations. Commerce Casino is also a very active participant on the Commerce Industrial Council, the city’s equivalent of a chamber of commerce, which enhances the relationship between city government and the business community. One of the Casino’s most anticipated activities each year is its sponsorship of the City of Commerce’s annual Holiday Party for 50 children from low-income homes.
